15 Days - TOUR DE PHO (CYCLE VIETNAM)

Vietnam and cycling go together like spring rolls and chilli sauce, so in partnership with reid cycles, we’ve set up a little date! this wheely great cycling adventure takes you from ho chi minh city to hanoi. Cruise on past nha trang’s beaches, hue’s perfume river, hoi an’s countryside and experience the road to halong bay as millions of vietnamese do - from the humble bike seat. pack your cycling shorts; you’re in for a treat!

DAY 01:  HO CHI MINH CITY (SAIGON)
Welcome to a place where two-wheel locomotion is king – Ho Chi Minh City. We have arranged transfers for you from the airport to your hotel. No activities are planned until your evening meeting, so you may arrive at any time. Please check the welcome board or reception desk, located on the ground floor of the hotel for information. 
Nip out for a wander, check out the street stalls and get friendly with pho before you meet your cycling buddies in the evening.

DAY 2: HO CHI MINH CITY (CYCLING APPROXIMATELY 40KM)
Get familiar with your wheels, the roads and the atmos on a cycle through the countryside. If jetlag kicks in, a support truck will be right behind you. Check out the Cu Chi Tunnels,a bunch of underground passageways used during the Vietnam War. Claustrophobics might wanna sit this one out.

DAY 03: HO CHI MINH CITY
Get your pedal on again and check out some more rad Ho Chi Minh sights – museums, markets, pagodas – or ask your leader about their favourite haunts. When night falls, hopaboard an overnight train bound for the beach town NhaTrang.
Accommodation: 4 berth sleeper on local train / Soft sleeper

DAY 04: NHA TRANG (CYCLING APPROXIMATELY 15-20KM)
Right, so you’re in a beach town on a cycling trip –a shoreline ride is pretty much mandatory. The ride’s nice, short and easy… i.e. you can admire the ocean vistas without taking a tumble.

DAY 05:  NHA TRANG
There’s a bunch of islands just off Nha Trang, so jump on a boat and get amongst it. Typical Asian ocean rules apply: the water’s warm, the reef’s ripe for snorkeling and your onboard seafood lunch was probably swimming next to you an hour ago. Nha Trang’s also known for its nightlife, so pack your party pants.

DAY 06: NHA TRANG
Spend a free day in Nha Trang doing whatever you do best, shopping, feasting, building sandcastles… we don’t judge. Then it’s all aboard for an overnight train ride to Danang.

DAY 07: HOI AN (CYCLING APPROXIMATELY 40KM)
From Danang it’s a short trip to Hoi An. After lunch, you’ll hit the road for a cycle through Hoi An’s surrounds. Ride highways and dirt roads… probably with a gaggle of locals cheering you on. Marble Mountain and China Beach (aka My Khe Beach) are two top pit stops.

DAY 08: HOI AN
Free day – woo-hoo! And what a place to enjoy it in.At your disposal: colonial architecture, French-inspired food, a sweet riverside market and army of savvy tailors who can whip you up something special in no time. You can test out your mad Masterchef skills at a Vietnamese cooking class or visit the Kingdom of Champa or some ancient ruins if you fancy.

DAY 09: HUE
Onwards and upwards we go, zooming through the gasp-worthy Hai Van Pass, and on to Hue (sounds like chewy, well, kinda).

DAY 10: HUE (CYCLING APPROXIMATELY 15-20KM)
Knock it back to cruise control for a leisurely ride along the Perfume River to one of Hue’s hottest landmarks –the Thien Mu Pagoda. Then head off-road to the tomb of Emperor TuDuc. Rest your weary legs on the return to Hue by jumping aboard a dragon boat.

DAY 11:  HUE
Getting to know Hue? Take it to the next level – minx around the city’s citadel walls, enter the ‘Forbidden’ Purple Palace or hunt downthe city’s best banh mi. Mmmm, bahn mi. Come late afternoon, jump on the Reunification Express for an overnight train to Hanoi.

DAY 12: HANOI (CYCLING APPROXIMATELY 15-20KM)
Hang out in Hanoi’s Old Quarter and Dong Xuan Market this morning – or just snuggle in bed and snooze. Following lunch, you’ll skip town with a cycle out to West Lake. Muchos temples and pagodas along the way.

DAY 13:  HALONG BAY - CAT BA
Today’s the big one – a 4-hour ride through the Red River Delta to Halong Bay. On the way you’ll visit an ace handicraft workshop run by people with disabilities (save your pennies!). Spend the rest of the day cruising the waters of World Heritage-listed Halong Bay on a junk boat. Hidden caves, swimming, feasting, ahhhhhh boat life. Spend the night on solid ground at Cat Ba Island.

DAY 14: CAT BA - HANOI
Return by bus to Hanoi and spend the rest of the day getting friendly with Vietnam’s capital. Choose to visit the One Pillar Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum or the Temple of Literature – or go crazy and squeeze in all three.

DAY 15:  HANOI
Got the ‘last day’ blues? Head to HoanKiem Lake and get your giggle on watching ‘Laughing Yoga’. Then you and your svelte cycling legs are ready for home. A transfer to the airport will be organized for you. The trip ends in this morning. You are transfer to airport for your fight home.
