Dong Du Village belongs to Nghia Dan district, Nghe An province, Vietnam about 68 km to the west of Vinh City on the way from and to Phong Nha - Ke Bang and Ninh Binh. Dong Du Village is a typical Vietnamese agricultural village in terms of culture and traditions. The village is surrounded by mountains which are mirrored in the Khe Lau lake. Also, similar to other typical traditional Vietnamese villages in the Far North Vietnam, Dong Du Village has golden rice fields in the harvest time, many lakes and waterlily and lotus ponds and colorful gardens, especially the ranges of areca and coconut trees in the sunshine.
Dong Du Village has many historical monuments and an ancient house named Dong Truc which contains cultural and historical values dated back to Ly and Tran dynasty. In the village, all the alley roads have stone walls. The community-based tourism project has been developed in Dong Du village since 2001. Visitors can visit Dong Du village to see water puppet show and enjoy swimming, kayaking and standup paddle boarding in Khe Lau lake and stay overnight with family in cozy homestays
Tours of villages attract foreign tourists
An increasing number of foreign tourists are enjoying the hospitality and traditional Vietnamese culture in Dong Du Village commune, Nghia Dan district, Quang Ninh province. Many of them are spending two- or three-day stays observing and partaking in the unique rural culture, such as planting water rice, grinding rice and fishing.

The village lies on the pathway from Inland Halong Bay ( known as Ninh Binh) to Phong Nha-Kebang so the tourism industry incorporates tours of Dong Du village to introduce Vietnamese village culture to international guests and the village is perfect stop-over between Quang Binh and Ninh Binh
Jean Jacques from Lyon in France says he spent a marvelous time staying in a peaceful village with hospitable people. Vietnamese culture is fascinating, he says, adding, he is highly appreciative of how the young generations learn and experience production and daily life from their predecessors.
His wife, Murielle, says Vietnamese farmers are industrious and show great kindness to their families. She expects to return and experience other cultural activities in the country.
Coming to Dong Du, visitors have the chance to go through Vietnamese farmers’ routine, visit rubber tree and coffee farms, and enjoy folk music. They even plant rice and vegetables, grinding rice and fishing themselves. Such tours are considered a special kind of tourism product, helping promote and protect traditional agricultural craft, and heighten the image of Vietnamese villages.
