Strange Practices Of The Dao Ethnic Group In The North of Vietnam

Costumes:
Compared with other ethnic groups, the Dao costumes are considered to retain many features of its identity term of the material and colors. Dao Do ethnic group wears red flowers in front of their chests. Dao Quan Chet ethnic group wears tight pants. White pant Dao ethnic group is prominent with big bibs.

The Dao ethnic group has a very rich and charming culture shown by many practices, beautiful dances, good songs, myths, fables, folks, idioms, puzzles ... But like the other ethnic minorities, they mainly exist in an oral form, which have now also been extinct and lost for objective and subjective reasons.

Belief:
The belief of the Dao ethnic group is the "animism" affected by Confucianism and Taoism. Confucianism is evident in the way to delimit the hierarchical orders in every family and every clan. At the same time, Taoism influences on most of their  traditions of ancestor worshipping. The Dao ethnic group believes that when a person dies, his or her soul exists forever and returns to ancestors.

Houses:
Regarding the structure of the houses, there are three types of houses of the Dao ethnic group. One is the stilt house, one is the ground house, and one is adopted from two styles. Houses are made of wood and bamboo, very solid, simple but combined cleverly to show discreet and subtle features. The traditional house type of white pant Dao is the stilt house which usually includes three rooms. However, they do not use nails to connect parts. The stilt house has one staircase with odd  steps and two kitchens. Meanwhile, the Dao Do people the kind designed half of ground house and half of land house in the middle of the hill. Choosing the direction of the house is the same as other ethnic groups.

Marriage:
The Dao ethnic group has many strange customs in marriage. Men have to live their wives from two to three years or forever. On the wedding day, the bridal makeups very beautifully, wears the red hat with flower patterns, and a lot of silver rings on her arm and neck while the wedding delegation includes the sorcerer, and people performing trumpets, gongs, and drums.

Going to her husband's house, the bride must stay at  an interim house. When it is the right time, she must practice some rituals before putting her steps into her husband's house. After being marrying, she has to give birth to her first child at her bedroom. On the first three days, the doors have to hang leaves to prevent strangers from going to her house.
