This tour explores southern Vietnam, taking in Saigon and Can Tho in the Mekong Delta. Saigon, or Ho Chi Minh City, teems with energy, activity and motion. Everywhere you look you can see the meeting of traditional and modern life. The emerging skyline stands cheek by jowl with colonial buildings and traditional temples. Outside on the streets, young professionals zip by on their motorcycles, chatting on cellphones; inside the quiet temple courtyards worshippers pray amidst clouds of incense. The French influence is readily seen in the old colonial buildings, such as the Opera House and City Hall, which serve as a contrast to the luxury hotels, shopping malls, and gourmet restaurants springing up across the city. In the fertile fields of the Mekong Delta a different scene unfolds. The region is lush with vegetation, fruit orchards, and of course, rice fields. Traditional Vietnamese life unfolds along the riverbanks, while the daily haggling of goods plays out in the marketplaces.

Day 01: Saigon
Arrive at Saigon's Tan Son Nhat International Airport and transfer by sedan to your hotel in Saigon.

Day 02: Saigon
Full-day private tour of Saigon. Begin with a visit to the historic center, strolling along Dong Khoi Street, the main shopping thoroughfare and heart of old colonial Saigon. Pass by classic European-style landmarks such as the ornate City Hall, the old Opera House, neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Central Post Office. Tour the Reunification Palace, followed by a visit to the War Remnants Museum, and then the Emperor of Jade Pagoda. In the afternoon explore bustling Cholon (Chinatown), with visits to Binh Tay Market, Thien Hau Pagoda, and Ben Thanh Market. (breakfast, lunch).

Day 03: Can Tho
Depart this morning for an excursion to the lush Mekong Delta region. Travel to Ben Luc and Tan An, and take a boat trip on the Mekong River to Ben Tre, where local handicrafts and sweets derived from coconut are produced. Enjoy fresh seasonal fruits, a performance of traditional songs, and observe the local life. Take a short ride on a horse carriage to a typical local house to taste some homemade honey-tea. Afterwards proceed by a small sampan boat through the canals to see daily life unfold along the riverbanks. Proceed to Can Tho and your hotel. (breakfast, lunch).

Day 04: Can Tho - Saigon
Set out early this morning by boat to explore Cai Rang Floating Market, the biggest and most bustling in the Mekong Delta, which attracts fruit and vegetable vendors from all over the region. Buyers on smaller boats weave between large barges selling wholesale produce, and each vendor advertises fresh samples of their wares on long poles overhead their colorful boats. Once the activity has died down explore some backwaters and canals before returning to the pier. Continue by road back to Saigon. (breakfast, lunch).

Day 05: Depart Saigon
Transfer to Tan Son Nhat International Airport. (breakfast).
